Bloated

That's me. I just ate half jar of cheese dip in about 10 minutes. It was awesome.

This campaign is getting ugly

Smear tactics have hit Rocco's campaign for Hound Dog Homecoming King. This is unacceptable (and hilarious), and we must counteract it. If you believe in Rocco's vision of a world where there are no homeless animals, where all are adopted into loving homes that spoil them with treats, toys, and high quality pet foods, please help. Donations towards Rocco's campaign so that he can pursue his dream to represent the homeless animals of Columbia, Missouri are greatly appreciated. Email Rocco's campaign manager for details.

Happy Anniversary to us!

Yesterday was our third wedding anniversary. On one hand I can't believe it's been three years - it seems like we were just married last week. On the other, it feels like we've been together forever - well...we sort of have. We've been together over eleven years. :)

Above is probably my favorite wedding picture. My sister took it right after the ceremony when we were cracking up that the pastor pronounced our last name very, very wrong. The pastor we wanted to perform our ceremony had to cancel at the last minute, and so this guy (very kindly) stood in on a short notice. He was wicked old, very confused that Lizzi was our flower girl/ring bearer, and apparently had difficulty pronouncing our name. Some brides would have flipped out, but I thought it was hilarious.

My other favorite wedding picture - me and my beautiful (and tired) flower girl.

We had a really wonderful long weekend together (5 day weekends are my kind of weekends!). We were supposed to go camping/floating, but the weather was looking pretty nasty, so we just decided to stay home instead. We were mildly productive, ate some really yummy food, and got to hang out with friends a lot - it was lovely!

We spent our actual anniversary at a fabulous Ben Folds concert on 9th Street. We've loved him for years and years, so it's hard to believe this was our first time seeing him live. And how I'm kicking myself for it now - he played SO many great songs, and really put on a incredible show. I can't wait to see him play again - the man is talented!

Hound Dog Homecoming!

Rocco, Hound Dog Homecoming King Candidate

The Central Missouri Humane Society has a really great fundraising event every year called Hound Dog Homecoming. It's a time for their "alumni" and friends to get together for some fun games like:
  • bobbing for hot dogs
  • musical sit
  • Pawcasso paintings
  • duck pond
  • pet photos
  • kissing booth
  • microchips and nail clips
They also have a Homecoming King and Queen competition for the dogs, and we've decided to enter Rocco as a candidate. Each dollar is a vote, so whoever collects/raises/donates the most to the shelter on behalf of their candidate gets crowned. We've raised $162 so far, which is awesome, but the winner last year raised over $800, so we've got a long way to go.

If any of my lovely blog readers are interested in making a tax-deductible donation to CMHS while helping Rocco be crowned king, we would greatly appreciate it! Even a dollar would be great, and would help Rocco on his quest (he wants to help animals that are in the position he was once in). I'll be collecting money until June 25th, so if you're interested in donating, you can give it to me in person or through paypal.

Thank you!

And regardless of if you donate or not, you should definitely come out to the event on June 28, from 11 - 2 in the field behind CMHS. It is SO much fun! See www.cmhspets.org for more details.

Pomp and Circumstance

Emmeline and Rocco have officially graduated from Pet Manners 1. Such smart kids we have! In fact, they were the only ones out of their class that graduated. In full disclosure, the other two dogs in class dropped out. Probably because Emma and Rocco were the stars of class. :)

Next stop: Pet Manners 2.

Itty Bitty gets a home!

I should have posted this a long time ago, but because I've been very busy doing nothing, I haven't got around to it until now.

Miss Isabelle, formerly known as Itty Bitty, has finally found a wonderful home!

She was scheduled for her spay on April 21, but it turns out she was only around seven weeks old instead of the required eight. This means she was just THREE weeks when we got her! Ridiculous. I still hate whoever dumped her on the side of the road.

Isabelle at 3 weeks old

Anyway, she found her home with an awesome couple in Chicago. They are so, so excited to have her in their lives, which of course makes me very happy. Kyle and I met Isabelle's new mom in Springfield, IL on Friday, and came home to just our crew.

Now if you'll recall, the goal was to remain foster-free for about a month before Isabelle crossed our paths. That was 6 weeks ago, but we're shooting for that goal again. Fingers crossed no other accidental fosters find their way to us!

And now, a few pictures. Her new momma is a professional photographer, so I have a feeling I'll be seeing awesome pictures of her regularly.

This part isn't nearly as exciting, but we enjoyed our day trip to Springfield.

Denise's Diner: Best little diner in Farber. Also, the only little diner in Farber. And I'm pretty sure it's closed.

The weather sucked on the way there. Here we are crossing the Mississippi heading into IL. There were tornado warnings in MO, so at least we were heading the right direction (away).

After we dropped off Isabelle, we drove by the Capitol

And then I ate the most delicious shrimp BLT ever. Cafe Brio in Springfield gets a thumbs up from me.

This actually happened today, but I thought it was funny. It reminds me of Mr. Bill.

Happy Cinco de Mayo

What? I realize it's 5 days late, but so?

We had an overnight guest on Cinco de Mayo. My friend Michelle came across a beautiful boxer boy, but was unable to watch him due to a very new baby in the house. So she contacted me, and we ran over to get him.

Since we didn't know his name, we decided to name him something (for the night) with some Latin flavor. We went with Raul.

Raul was very well taken care of, and pretty well mannered, so we just knew he belonged to someone. He and Emma played for a little while, though she was less than enthused by him at first. Once she realized he would actually play with her, the two didn't stop until bed time.

We took Raul to the shelter the next morning in hopes that his owner would go there looking for him. Fortunately they did, and now the beautiful boxer boy has been returned home.

Good thing too, because Emma would have liked a playmate her size...
