I went to the shelter yesterday and dropped Angelo off for viewing. Here's hoping he gets adopted soon!
I was at the shelter for another purpose. CMHS received 35 dogs that the Department of Agriculture seized from a puppymill. The dogs were in HORRIBLE shape. Matted, filthy, unsocialized, and scared to death. They needed some help grooming these guys so they could look like some semblance of a dog again, so I offered to bring one home to groom overnight. I chose Tully.

This poor thing has been forced to live her life confined to a tiny, tiny cage with who knows how many other animals. She never knew human companionship. I'm sure she never had a name. Never touched grass. Never had a treat. Or a toy. Or a bath (Lord knows that's the truth). She has been abused, neglected, and forced to carry litter after litter so someone can buy her puppies from a pet store or directly from the breeder.Despite all she's been through, she's an absolute doll. She's actually very personable for a puppymill dog. She's still got some hesitation, but she will absolutely come around in time. And in the 29 hours we've had her, she has not had an accident in her crate, and just had a small accident on the floor - for a mill dog, who has been forced to live in her own excrement for her entire life, this is huge.
A good shaving and a long bath later, here's what Tully looks like now.

Sucks that someone would put something so angelic through such abuse, huh? Moral of the story - don't support puppy mills. Do NOT buy a dog from a pet store, and don't support a breeder who has multiple breeds and/or always has puppies available. Big red flags.
